English has been categorized into many divisions over time. We have General English, Academic English, Street English (informal), Business English( formal), English for Competitive exams etc. These are very broad terms used to differentiate between the styles of speaking or writing. The vocabulary and sentence structures are different in the different forms.
In today's discourse we shall discuss a very important aspect of the language - Business English!
What is Business English? To state it simply, Business English is a formal and refined form of English used in the corporate world in the global arena. In the corporate world, communication takes a very official form with a lot of words and phrases related to courtesy, ethics, law, technicalities, advanced sentence structures and formalities.
Why learn Business English? - Well, you do wish to prosper in your business and / or career, right? To get new clients and customers, you need to communicate with them in the way that pleases them. You should be in a position to understand your customers' communication very clearly without misunderstandings, right? Without learning this particular form of English you may not expect to be able to do so.
Furthermore, if you are working for any corporation that uses English as its medium of communication or if you wish to find a job in such a company, you are expected to know Business English well.
You might ask why we need to know Business English and why general English isn't enough..... Well, I'll give you an example. If you meet the CEO, would it really be proper to say 'Hi, how are you?' Dear me, NO! You have to learn to speak more formally and say 'Hello! How do you do?' That sounds more formal and courteous and pleasant. Would you tell your boss or customer 'What do you want from me?' Noooo..... lol . You should say 'How may I be of assistance / How may I help you? / What may I do for you today?'

Apart from regular conversations we also need to read and write corporate documents frequently and must make use of formal and professional vocabulary words and phrases and idioms. In Short, Business English is a highly specialized field of English communication which is indispensable in the present and will be indispensable in the future.
